COVID CLUSTER — ROUTE CHANGE — MORE DISTANCE AND ELEVATION

As we have become accustomed with Mr Covid, there is much uncertainty and confusion. This last week borders opened and we breathed a sigh of relief that the tour via Lesotho was on track as planned. Later we were informed only “some” off the borders have opened and that we would need Covid tests going in and also coming out 2 days later !! The snags being that the Sani Pass border is not open, and that the Lesotho Covid test takes 3 days for a result, by which time we were expected to be way down the road.

Since then some sensibility has prevailed and apparently the entry Covid test is valid for 14 days…….so we could go except, the border being deemed small will still not open.
We have thus turned the tour on its head and diverted Northwards along the foot off the Drakensbrg mountains through Bergville, Little Switzerland, Golden gate national park and Clarens to re-join our original route in Fouriesburg.

This has changed a few things, we now start on the 2nd November, we will now ride 2600 km and we will now climb 35000 metres all told. Eish Eish Eish Eish !!!!!!!!!!!!
Getting excited we have done a few training rides together. David Homer Simpson has done little but grumble about hills hills hills, whilst Deidre has shot up on her pink panther quite happily.

On guiding them home today i was witness to what must be one of the largest and finest collection of bicycle toys in a single household, (pic below) These 2 are seriously nuts……. and not forgetting that cycling is only one of their disciplines, one can’t imagine the rest of the kit. David says Deidre has more cycle shoes than Imelda Marcos and having seen 2 colourful pairs in 2 weeks, i imagine that when it comes to deciding which to take on tour the packing of the car for the trip is going to be fun  😂.

Bruce Badger Fivaz, seems to be very relaxed, taking fishing sabbaticals during some serious training, and next weekend we will finally get to test his mettle, when we are riding a 90 km “test run” on Saturday. This will be the last big ride before the BIG ride.

All of this, is for our beloved pensioners in Zimbabwe. Things are not getting better for them, rampant inflation is a massive problem. Every pedal stroke and cent of support is worth it, please help us to help them.
It remains for us to profusely thank you donors.

Yours in the saddle CJ  (Chris Bradshaw)
