Old Legs Medical Fund Update report – 19 – 25 August 2023

Wow. We have been busy

Old Legs sponsored a new television for the Men’s TV Room at the Salvation Army  Home in Braeside.  The old television was down to a wobbly black and white test pattern only. The residents are loving their new TV.

‘Maggie X’ had a hip replacement op last month. She has to go back to the doctor in September after he picked up a slight infection her post op review .

‘John B ‘ had on op at St Anne’s to remove a benign growth that was blocking his urethra. All went well and he is back home and well on the road to  recovery.

‘Lorna B’ is booked in for cataract surgery on both eyes. Shame, currently the poor dear can’t even see the fridge in her kitchen. The operations will be life changing.

‘Jill W’ had successful cataract surgery on her good eye. Jill lost vision in her other eye a few years ago. An avid reader, she is ‘over the moon’ grateful.

‘Marcie C’  had a successful hip replacement 2 weeks ago. NB Marcie is in the care business herself and has helped so many elderly people in need. It was nice to pay back.

‘Denise W’ suffered a suspected stroke last Monday. She is recuperating and in good hands. Please include her in your prayers going forward.

Our waiting list continues to grow. Welcome on board to the following and may your stay on the waiting list be very short.

‘Suzie N’ from the Midlands. We received Suzie x-rays which confirm her hip is completely shot and long past it’s replacement date. I can only imagine the pain she lives with. We will her up to Harare soonest to see the surgeon.

‘Carrie D’ now needing a new hip, after her ankle was replaced. Carrie remains in high spirits despite her ongoing and considerable discomfort.

‘Shadreck P’ who is badly in need of a new knee.

‘Helmut C’– suffering limited mobility and extreme pain and needing 2 new knees. I hate visiting because he is such a gentleman and insists on trying to get up to greet me.

‘Martin M’- suffering limited mobility and extreme pain and needing 2 new knees. I hate visiting because he is such a gentleman and insists on trying to get up to greet me. NB This is not a typo.

RIP Martin Caroll. We first Martin when broke his hip 6 months ago. He was living on his own and in the middle of nowhere at the time and in a bad way. His operation was a success, and we were able to relocate him to Salvation Army. We take great comfort knowing that he was happy those last few months.

A big thank you to the Old Legs donors who made all of the above happen. God bless.
